Elon Musk’s bombshell during AI Day was undoubtedly the surprise presentation of the Tesla Bot. This humanoid robot looks like it came out of an Isaac Asimov science fiction novel. The electric automaker allowed us to see a preview of their project—a mannequin—to prove that it’s genuine. Of course, they clarified that it is still in the development phase, so it is not yet possible to observe it in motion.

According to the company, the Tesla Bot will aim to replace humans in ” risky, repetitive and boring ” tasks. No, this is not a joke. He measures 1.76 meters and weighs 56 kilograms, which would allow him to deploy efficient movements to carry out his activities. At least initially, the Tesla Bot would be capable of carrying a load of up to 20 kilograms and could move at a maximum speed of 8 km / h. Not bad for a robot.

The Tesla Bot will be prepared with multiple internal systems, hardware, and software to be efficient daily. For example, their hands can behave like human hands to hold objects. In addition, it has 40 electromechanical actuators, which function as a kind of joints to facilitate its movements.

Of course, it comes as a surprise that the Tesla Bot’s weight is so “light” relative to its height. Elon Musk points out that, to achieve this, they will use lightweight materials, but without neglecting their strength and durability.

You should know that the Tesla Bot will have a “brain” quite similar to the one that makes the Autopilot of its electric cars possible. Believe it or not, it integrates its FSD (Full Self-Driving) computer and cameras to move autonomously. The latter is located on the head, so you can see a transparent material around them. On the other hand, instead of the face, a screen will be located to display information.

Like cars with the aforementioned assisted driving system, the Tesla Bot relies on neural networks to identify the objects around it and react to them in the most natural way possible. It even has a simulation system and a set of tools for constant learning.

According to Elon Musk, Tesla’s goal is to have the prototype of the Tesla Bot ready by 2022. We are assuming, of course, that there are no unexpected obstacles in the way. So are you worried that the Tesla Bot could lead the Rise of the Machines and the rise of Skynet? Don’t worry; Musk says he’s a human-friendly robot.
